About the Series

Overview of the HBO horror anthology Tales From The Crypt (1989–1996).

Tales From The Crypt is an American horror anthology television series that originally ran on HBO for seven seasons, from 1989 to 1996, comprising 93 episodes. Because it aired on premium cable, it featured content — graphic violence, nudity, and strong language — that broadcast networks of the era could not show.

Each episode is a self-contained story, most adapted from the 1950s EC Comics horror titles, and almost always ends in a grim, ironic twist. The stories are introduced and closed by the Crypt Keeper, a cackling animatronic ghoul whose terrible puns became the show's signature. The series was overseen by a group of well-known Hollywood producers and attracted many notable directors and guest stars over its run.
