The Crypt Keeper Archive is a labor of love: a fan-built archive, wiki, and horror-news tracker dedicated to the beloved horror anthology and its EC Comics roots. It is designed to feel like a forgotten 1996 fan page discovered through a webring — while running on modern, maintainable, reasonably secure code under the hood.

This is a fan project created and maintained by Trey Cox Creative (treycoxcreative.com). It is made by fans, for fans — with no official connection to the rights holders (see the disclaimer below).

Why this exists — bringing back the old web

Remember when the internet felt like yours? Before everything got funneled into a handful of corporate platforms and algorithmic feeds, the web was a sprawling frontier of personal sites, fan pages, and webrings — independent, a little weird, full of personality, and free. You followed your curiosity from one obscure page to the next and actually discovered things. No login walls. No infinite scroll. No one mining your attention. Just people making stuff about things they loved.

The Crypt Keeper Archive is a love letter to that era. It’s built on purpose in the spirit of a 1996 fan site: no tracking-soaked feeds, no engagement traps, no walled gardens — just a corner of the web made by a fan, for fans, about something worth obsessing over.

And it’s only the beginning. This is the first of a growing network of retro-style fan sites and vintage corners of the web from Trey Cox Creative — a small, stubborn effort to bring back the freedom, creativity, and joy of the internet so many of us grew up on. The glory days of the web aren’t gone forever. We just have to rebuild them, one page at a time.

Let’s be upfront: this site is built today, with modern software and tools — including AI. We’re not pretending it’s actually 1996, and we’re not hiding how it gets made. The point was never fake nostalgia or gatekeeping about “authentic” hand-coding. The point is the spirit of the old web: personal, independent, made by a human who cares, for other humans — free of feeds, trackers, and walled gardens.

If modern tools (AI included) help one person bring more of these independent corners to life, that serves the mission rather than betraying it. The tools changed; the vision — a web that feels like ours — is the original one.

Wait, was this really made in 1996?

No! The “Est. 1996” badge (1996 being the final year Tales From The Crypt aired), the webring banner, the neon glow, and the under-construction signs are all a deliberate throwback to the look and feel of mid-1990s fan pages. The Crypt Keeper Archive is a present-day project — it just wears a 1996 costume. No actual time travel was involved (that we’ll admit to).

About the imagery & data

The retro interface itself — the neon, the chrome, the under-construction signs — is all original CSS, text art, and public-domain-style graphics. Editorial imagery is sourced from open databases with attribution: film posters from the OMDb & TMDB APIs, and classic EC Comics covers, issues & creator credits from the Metron comic database (metron.cloud). Those covers are shown with credit under fair use for commentary and archival fandom, and remain © their respective rights holders (EC / William M. Gaines Agent, Inc.).
